    Seattle Preschool – LOVE…LEARN…GROW

The Path To Elementary School Starts Here!

At Seattle Preschool + Pre-K we offer developmentally appropriate programs with specialized curriculum for children 3 to 6 years old. Our School Readiness based programming provides multiple options that allow you to find the right fit for your child. We emphasize a comprehensive approach that supports child development from all angles; physically, socially, emotionally and academically. We believe in the importance of a program that closes the gap between home and elementary school, and supports your child for a long road of future academic success.

Each classroom provides a multi-age setting that imparts daily opportunities for peer helping and self-paced development. The curriculum focuses on empathy, emotion management and problem-solving skills. Our goal is to provide students with a foundation for meeting life’s challenges with independence and confidence.

For the 2021/2022 school year, Seattle Preschool will be offering in-class Preschool and Pre-K. We will be upholding all health & safety protocols as set forth by all local, state and CDC guidance, and any changes in protocol that occur during the year. Our classroom has been set up to allow for safe physical-distancing, while maintaining a calm, assuring and engaging environment, where kids can socialize and learn safely. Our safety measures have thus far allowed us a transmission-free record.

Please note, the adult participation “Preschool Prep” program will be on hold for this year.

Click here to watch a brief video of Seattle Preschool Lake City, which was created last winter before the pandemic. We are keeping the fun, but with new health & safety protocols in place!

    Purpose Statement

The purpose of Seattle Preschool + Pre-K Program is to nurture and support both the students and their families so as to create an environment that allows them to learn, grow and become prepared for the years ahead.

At Seattle Preschool, we believe in a balanced blend of self-directed play and teacher-led instruction. We utilize both play and physical activity as a medium through which children can develop their social awareness, emotion-management skills and strengthen their mind-body connection. We incorporate research-based curriculum to further support each child’s social-emotional and academic growth.

Each day consists of projects and activities inspired by the world around us to encourage in-depth learning and nurture each child’s curiosity. Circle time offers the students an opportunity to participate in group discussions, share ideas and gain confidence speaking in front of a group. The multi-age setting imparts daily opportunities for peer cooperation and self-paced development.

Our staff has developed an integrated approach to theme-based curriculum that nurtures curiosity, and supports exploration and individualized growth. Our goal is to provide students with a foundation for meeting life’s challenges with independence and confidence.

Each child is unique and we do our best to nurture and support their individual strengths, and interests. We believe that what truly makes a difference in a child’s life, beneath all the methods, materials, and the curriculum, is a teacher who takes the time to know and care about each child while teaching from the heart.

    Learning & Developing Goals

Seattle Preschool – Lake City utilizes the Washington State Early Learning and Development Guidelines to gauge child development and set achievable goals for the children in our program. We also use the Washington State Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Guidelines as a benchmark for children making their transition from preschool to Kindergarten.

    Physical Education

Seattle Preschool – Lake City students participate daily in exercise and creative movement with SGA’s highly trained staff. While on the gym floor we strive to develop gross motor skills, coordination, body control, self-awareness, trust and confidence. We use positive encouragement, progressive teaching and age-appropriate equipment to teach basic gymnastics skills, cooperative games, sports, dance and rhythm while instilling a life long enjoyment of being active.

    Curriculum

    Curriculum:

At Seattle Preschool we believe in the importance of a well-rounded approach to your child’s education. Each day the teachers utilize theme-based topics and lessons along with research-based curriculum. Our themes follow a logical, nature inspired progression that inspires ideas and encourages children to explore their community, their families and their world with unlimited curiosity.

    Second Step

A social-emotional curriculum that helps, “little learners harness their energy and potential by teaching them to listen, pay attention, control their behavior, and get along with others. When students enter kindergarten with the self-regulation and social-emotional skills taught in the research-based Second Step program, they’re set up for success.”

    Growing Up Wild

“Growing Up WILD is an early childhood education program that builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore wildlife and the world around them. Through a wide range of activities and experiences, Growing Up WILD provides an early foundation for developing positive impressions about the natural world and lifelong social and academic skills.”

    Hand Writing Without Tears

“Get Set for School helps young learners gain the skills and experiences they need for lifelong learning success. Our hands-on curriculum focuses on the three core learning areas—readiness & writing, language &literacy, and numbers & math. We get preschoolers singing, dancing, coloring, building, and exploring on a joyous journey to school.”

    Field Trips

Currently, field trips are on hold for the 2021/2022 school year out of consideration for our community’s health and safety. We may introduce field trips should as conditions improve and are possible for us to safely execute.

We will, however, ensure that we engage our kids in adventure and have tons of fun within our classroom and outdoor space!

When we can resume field trips, each school year includes theme-based trips and in-house classroom visits that help to reinforce the curriculum and promote community. Field Trip days are no school days and families meet at the designated location for a fun filled day that includes structured activities, exploration and friendship.

When we are able, we also resume walking Field trips to explore our local community: Lake City Public Library, Fire Station #39, and the Lake City Post Office are just some of the places we have been! Each year’s Field Trips and classroom visits vary and depend on availability and students’ interests.
