    Introducing SGA Live Virtual Classes!

We’ve seen throughout the stay-at-home order how businesses have adapted and changed to continue to serve communities and generate revenue in our new “normal.” And now, we’re very excited to announce, it’s SGA’s turn! We’re taking the next step in the Virtual SGA program, creating ways to keep in touch with our gymnasts and better serve the community during this challenging time, while also creating avenues to generate a bit of revenue, and the ability to continue paying our staff and our essential operating costs until we can safely reopen.

When the closure started, we got right to work creating free content our gymnasts could work on at home. We’ve been blown away with both the quality of content our coaches generated, and the positive response from you in our community. At the same time, our Team gymnasts and coaches immediately began live streaming practices. This was uncharted territory for us, but these practices have proven successful in keeping our Team gymnasts engaged and in shape, and have worked out better than we had hoped!

With these two learnings in mind, we believe we are prepared to begin offering fee-based live streaming classes for our recreational gymnasts too!

We have a group of coaches that are well prepared and very excited (to say the least!) to see your gymnasts live, and are currently working hard to develop activities, drills and games that will safely engage your child in gymnastics at home. We recently ran test classes (with real kiddo students!) to work out the kinks, and figure out what types of activities best lend themselves to this format, in order to build robust lesson plans – just like we do at the gym!

    The details:

We will have classes for preschool gymnasts, recreational gymnasts of all ages and levels (girls and boys), plus co-ed T&T, Star League and J.O. Devo. Click here to view our Live Virtual Class schedule! All classes will be held once a week on the same day & time, just like our classes at the gym. And if you are able, and would like to enroll in multiple classes, we would certainly love that!

Plus, in addition to the live classes, we will continue our connection with you throughout the week through a tool called Flip Grid; our coaches will assign all students a weekly video challenge through Flip Grid, and gymnasts (and parents) will be able to upload their progress on the challenge for our coaches to engage back with through accolades and corrections.

Additionally, all families enrolled in Virtual classes will receive free access to our new paid video library, providing robust lessons and activities to enhance your training on your own time, and also to utilize if you are ever unable to make it to a class as a makeup. We are working to get the paid video library up and running by the end of the first week of class, you will receive email containing instructions on how to access the library and a code for free access (code will be updated periodically).

    Cost:
    • 30 minutes a week, $79 per month (30 minute classes include preschool, and beginner/intermediate Learn Level 3 and under)
    • 1 hour per week, $99 per month (1 hour classes include advanced/Learn Level 4 and above and all teenage classes)
    • Additional lengths:
      5 hrs: $156
      2 hrs: $185
      2.5 hrs: $197
      3 hrs: $207
      3.5 hrs: $235
      4 hrs: $267
4.5 hrs: Check with your Member Services Coordinator
    New coaches, and new friends!

On our class schedule we have color-coded the home gym of the coaches. However, these classes are gym-agnostic, meaning we want gymnasts from all three locations to join together in new classes (new friends!). While all the coaches leading these classes are certified “fan-favorites” by our SGA community, we know many kids may not be familiar with some of them (especially ones from gyms they don’t attend). So, they’ve all put together an introduction video about themselves and to say hello, so that gymnasts can “see” and get to know them a little better! We’re so excited for our kids from LKC to get to work with coaches from Columbia City, and CC kids to work with coaches from Ballard, and everything in between.

Don’t see a coach yet? Don’t worry, some are still working on their videos and we’ll continue to add – but we promise they are all friendly and fantastic!

*Important note* – while we noted above we want to combine gyms into new classes, if are enrolling in a class with a coach from a different gym than your current home gym, you will need to create a new account in The Studio Director (our class management system), if you have not previously created one for that gym in the past. We wish we had a workaround for this, but unfortunately at this time, we logistically can’t combine the three gyms together into the same system. We apologize for any additional work or inconvenience. If you have any questions about this / the enrollment process, please don’t hesitate to contact our Member Services Team (they can assist you with the process for any gym):

In an effort to make our online classes both easy for families to enroll in, while also flexible, once you have enrolled in class, we will continue your tuition monthly, until if and when you choose to un-enroll. We will automatically run tuition payments for the next month on the 20th of the month prior, using your payment information on file. As such, you will have until the 19th of the month to un-enroll for the following month, using our drop form, before we run tuition payments the next day (ie, drop by May 19 to end class May 31).

    But, gymnastics at home… how?!

Our core mission at SGA always has been to instill strength, skill and character in our kids through progressive gymnastics, and while it’s pained us all to not be together in the gym, we’ve never lost sight of this goal, which is why we immediately jumped into creating our Virtual SGA content.

We know gymnastics doesn’t seem like a sport that would easily lend itself to a home environment, but if there’s one thing we do know, it’s that little skills build upon each other – this is progressive gymnastics – and we can certainly work on the building-block skills at home! And if you’ve done any of our Virtual SGA videos, you know we might not have a balance beam at home, but we can work on our walks, holds and balancing on the floor. We might not have a vault, but we can work on improving our vault run and jumping drills. And for our littler preschool friends, we might not have our big obstacle courses and foam pits, but we can still play games that help us work on our shapes and make us super strong, while having fun!

All classes will follow a similar flow to our classes in the gym: a warm up, stretching, and activities to focus on event drills and skills, just without the apparatus equipment. If we can work hard to keep our strength and flexibility up, AND we can work on perfecting shapes, positions and small progressions, we will all be better than ever when we get back in the gym!

And staying active is not only important for our bodies, but also for our minds. And we hope that engagement and socialization, even through a screen, will helps kids through this unprecedented time.

    Other things to know:
    • We will have two coaches on every class; the lead coach that will be taking gymnasts through the class lesson plan and demonstrating skills / movements, and an assistant coach that will be helping watch gymnasts on screen, give corrections or repeat directions, etc. Two coaches also ensure that we are aligned and compliant with SafeSport, which requires more than one staff member to be present in any direct interaction with kids.
    • As an additional layer of safety and security, classes will be recorded through Zoom/Chime.
    • Visit our Virtual FAQ Page for technical assistance connecting to your class
    Requirements:
    • All participants will need a safe space in your home for your student to participate in online gymnastics classes – enough room to move (ideally 10×10 sq. ft. or more), and access to a soft surface, such as a yoga mat / carpeted floor or the like – but nothing that could slip out from under them, like a towel on a hard wood floor.
    • Parents, adult supervision during class is required. Please stay close and within ear shot during the virtual class to ensure safe participation.
    • An online liability waiver must be completed before you class link will be sent to you.

We want to say again how thankful we are for all of you. Many of you have reached out asking how you can help support SGA during this time. We are so excited to be developing this program, which we hope allows those who are able, to help support us financially, while providing a meaningful service back to you in return. We’ve said it before but we’ll say it again, we could never be here without you.

    Hope to SEE you soon!
