2020 All-American Invitational, Puyallup WA (Feb 9th)

Silvers:
Only 1 more gymnast needs to qualify for state, and McKenna Smith got 4th place AA! The judges thoroughly enjoyed all of the Silver’s floor routines. They hammed it up which was entertaining to watch, and made the meet a lot more fun! Plus all vaults improved, which was a goal for us!
Golds:
The golds stayed at the gym through awards until 10:30 – they were troopers! Everyone’s floor performances were so much better! It was great to see they were having fun.
Bianca Butler got 3rd on Vault, Aliah Ford got 3rd on beam, and Elena Kussmann-Carter got 3rd on Floor!
Platinums:
Says Coach Kim, “Power and amplitude were our goals for this meet. Beam was still a bit shaky for us, but after beam we went to floor, where they recovered! Their energy levels were much improved – we’ve been focusing on that a lot. All teams improved their performances, even if their scores didn’t necessarily reflect it. I’m proud of them!”
Roni got 2nd on Vault, Renee got 2nd on Vault & 3rd on floor, Maggie got 3rd on bars, and Zari got 4th on floor – which is the first time she’s placed all season! Plus we had Izzy Brown compete with us for the first time and she did great – she qualified for State!

BALLARD
Ballard XCEL had so much improvement across the board and our floor routines were especially exciting to watch. Our Platinum team took fourth place, Silver took second and Gold walked away with FIRST place. All the sweat and chalk has paid off and we are improving continuously! It was amazing to watch the girls cheer each other on from the sidelines and pick each other up when they “fell” down. We left the weekend with excitement for the next meet and determination to work hard and continue on the upward climb.

COLUMBIA CITY
The XCEL teams from SGA Ballard, Columbia City and Lake City all trekked down to the Vancouver, WA area on Jan 19-20 for the VEGA Challenge, hosted by Vancouver Elite and held at Battle Ground High School. Each team had a great showing and we are so proud of them! Read more about each team’s results below, and check out the highlighted Instagram stories from this meet on our IG bio pages for more pics!
Xcel Silver – Bianca qualified for Gold with the high team score of 36.85! She has also been working on her nerves at meet and going slow: she was able to maintain control and showed us some of her best routines! Our goal as a team was just to clean up our routines and improve on last meet, which we definitely did. Almost every single gymnast qualified for State! We are especially proud of Jensen and Edith, who were unfortunately sick for the last meet, making this their first meet. Can’t wait to see how we improve!
Xcel Gold – While everyone at some point had a routine or performance they weren’t proud of, everyone was able to recover very well, brush it off, and either compete well at the next event or show their team support by cheering loudly. The team support and vibe was awesome. These girls are starting to see the benefits of brushing it off, thinking mistakes are OK, and taking each event and each skill as it comes. Caitlin had one of her best meets and was able to take 3rd on Vault, Beam, and Floor! Manon, who competed Gold for the very first time at this meet, placed 2nd on Vault, Beam, and All-around!
Xcel Platinum – This team rocked it! We struggle sometimes with our nerves as a team, and they have a tendency to get the better of us. However, the team support was SUPER strong this time, and the girls all seemed revved up by it! Renee not only landed everything on floor for the first time as a Platinum (it has been a 2 season struggle), she got 1st on floor as well! She also competed – and stuck – her backhand spring on beam for the first time at a meet! Maggie competed Platinum for the first time ever in this competition, and she received 2nd on bars, and 6th on floor! Our goal specifically was to hit our cast requirement on bars and everyone did!! Almost everyone qualified for State as well! Shae received 4th on BB.
Xcel Diamond – Josie was our only Diamond, due to our others staying home to study. She received 3rd on Vault and 3rd on floor! She also had a crazy fall on beam: her foot slipped in her dismount, which caused her to miss a requirement. It was our first event, and she was clearly disappointed. However, we went to floor next where she was able to find a lot of joy in her routine, and she was able to finish the meet strong!

SGA Ballard at Reindeer Games (Auburn Gymnastics)
SGA Ballard attended our first Xcel competition of the season this past weekend (December 7, 2019) and it went great! This meet was a critique meet, which means we had the opportunity to get direct feedback from the judges. We were able to ask clarifying questions and hear first-hand what they are looking for this season. The girls were complemented on their fun floor choreography and were provided with corrections to take back to the gym and work on. We are so excited to kick off the season and cannot wait to see how our athletes improve! Awesome job to all the competitors this weekend!
