Develop strength and confidence in a local region competitive program.
A competitive program offering an accessible, yet challenging level of competition. XCEL competes in meets statewide.
SGA currently participates in the USA Gymnastics Xcel Program and the National Gymnastics Association (NGA) program.
The USA Gymnastics Xcel program was developed as an alternative competitive program to the Junior Olympic Program – offering individual flexibility to coaches and gymnasts. The goal of Xcel is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and commitment levels the opportunity for a rewarding gymnastics experience. There are five competitive levels in the Xcel program – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond – which allow a wide choice in skills to meet requirements so selection may be based on an individual athlete’s strengths.
National Gymnastics Association (NGA) is another program for competitive gymnastics in the United States. While new to the gymnastics industry, NGA is continuing to grow in popularity as an alternative to the USA Gymnastics program. As a completely optional program, there are fourteen (14) competitive levels for women designed to combine all levels of competitive gymnastics into one program – Level 1N (beginner) through Level 10N (college bound) – using one set of deductions over the skill levels offered to better streamline the judging process and provide a fun, safe environment for gymnasts to progress and reach their personal goals.

Time Commitment
There is an annual training commitment of 6 – 12 hours a week (depending on level) to be part of the Women’s Artistic Competitive Team as well as additional financial expenditures and willingness to travel within the state of Washington and surrounding region for competitions.
Competition Levels
Women’s Artistic Team members work on progressively difficult gymnastics skills within the levels of Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, while they develop strength and confidence; challenging themselves by competing within a local region against teams from other gyms.
Meets & Competitions
The competition season runs roughly November through March of each year with one to two competitions each month. Gymnasts are not required to compete in all four competitive events, although SGA encourages participation in all events and will train each regardless of competition – as we believe well-rounded skills are for the betterment of the athlete.
Team athletes will also have the opportunity to compete in two National Gymnastics Association (NGA) competitions a season. By providing both USAG and NGA competitions, SGA hopes to provide gymnasts with well-rounded, positive experiences and opportunities.
The Women’s Artistic Competitive Team is currently offered at SGA Ballard, Columbia City and Lake City.
